Visa Overview

Most tourists need an eVisitor (subclass 651) or Electronic Travel Authority (ETA, subclass 601) before flying to Australia, depending on their passport nationality. Both are processed online, and approval typically comes within a few days.

How to Apply

Applications are made through the official Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website or the ETA mobile app. Avoid third-party sites that charge extra fees for the same service.

Requirements

You'll need a valid passport, proof of onward travel in some cases, and to meet health and character requirements. The eVisitor is free; the ETA has a small service charge.

Processing Time

Most eVisitor and ETA applications are approved within 24-72 hours, but it's best to apply at least a couple of weeks before travel to allow for any delays or additional checks.
