Packing Basics
Australia's climate varies hugely by region and season, so what you pack depends heavily on where you're going. Layering is the safest strategy, especially if your trip covers both cities and the outback or Tasmania.
Sun Protection
Australia has some of the highest UV levels in the world. Pack strong sunscreen (SPF 50), a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses — locals reapply sunscreen constantly and so should you.
Clothing
Light, breathable clothing works for the coast and cities most of the year. If you're heading to Tasmania, the Blue Mountains or the outback in winter, add a warm layer, as temperatures can drop sharply at night.
Practical Extras
Bring reef-safe sunscreen if you plan to snorkel, insect repellent for tropical areas, and a universal adapter — Australia uses a distinct three-pin plug type.
